Runner trying to break World Record at Cellcom Green Bay Marathon

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The iconic Lambeau Field is the site of a major sports event Sunday: the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. Runners took off from the home of the Green Bay Packers.

StormCenter 2 meteorologist Jenny Curtiss says temperatures will be cool--which is ideal for runners. Temperatures are hovering around 50 degrees this morning. It will be cloudy but runners won't have to worry about rain. Click here for the full StormCenter 2 forecast.

The WBAY building on S. Jefferson Street is a water station. Staffers will hand water to runners and cheer them on as they pass the station at mile 20.

One story we're following on this race day is Will Kocken. Will is attempting to break a Guinness World Record for running the marathon with a 100-pound bag on his back. The current record is 6:47:03. Kocken has witnesses recording his entire journey to submit to the World Record team. He's been training for 17 months.

The National Guard soldier is raising money and awareness for the non-profit 4th H.O.O.A.H Wisconsin.

On Saturday, nearly 4,500 runners took part in the 5K. Mitch Easker of Sun Prairie won the men's division with a time of 16:77. Anna Gray of Green Bay won the women's division in 18:50.

Nearly 700 children ran in the WPS Kids' Power Run. It's a .75-mile race for children 10 and under.
