Romero’s arrival at United opens the door for De Gea

United’s acquisition of the Argentinean stopper from Sampdoria may accelerate David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid.

United’s acquisition of the Argentinean stopper from Sampdoria may accelerate David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid.

The Manchester United squad are still in San Francisco. They move to Chicago tomorrow and this morning the club announced the capture of goalkeeper, Sergio Romero. Speculation has been mounting all day that the Argentine international’s move to Old Trafford may accelerate David de Gea’s move back to the Spanish capital.

De Gea played in Saturday’s game against Barça and ignored any inquiries relating to his future. Van Gaal did state in the post-match press conference that he wanted De Gea to remain at United but that the rules of football are somewhat unpredictable.

This long drawn out “chess-match” that has been ongoing all summer long, may be entering its final phase. United are aware of De Gea’s desire to return to La Liga and the option involving Keylor Navas or Sergio Ramos in a swap style preparation seems to have been moved to the back burner. It’s also unlikely that international stopper, Romero has moved to Old Trafford to warm the bench. Where will this puzzle finally end up? Only Louis Van Gaal can answer that question?
