Barça not to appeal UEFA sanction over independence flags

Barcelona don’t want to generate any conflict with Uefa and will pay the 30.000 euro fine and will request a meeting with Platini.

Although the likes of Gerard Piqué have spoken out citing the UEFA fine as “totally unjust”, Barcelona will not appeal over the 30.000 euro fine which was handed to the club after the massive presence of pro-independence Catalan flags at the final of the Champions League in Berlin on June 6th. This information was confirmed by both the football club and a UEFA representative yesterday evening. Barça were given five days to request from UEFA the details relating to the sanction in the case where they wanted to mount an official appeal but the club has not made any advance in taking the matter down an appeal route.

On July 26 upon a visit to the Washington Post, Barça president, Bartomeu stated: “Barcelona does not agree with the UEFA sanction and we will seek to overthrow the decision. As we stated in our official communiqué, we feel the rights of our supporters untouchable and there is no political connotation behind their actions in Berlin”

Barça have made a U-turn and now want to seek dialogue with UEFA to avoid a similar situation in the future. The club plans to send a team of delegates to meet with UEFA officials in Tiblisi around the date of the European Super Cup between Barça and Sevilla on August 11th
