Deontay Wilder is set to defend his world title against Luis Ortiz in New York on March 3, it has been confirmed.

The pair were scheduled to fight back in November but Ortiz tested positive for a banned substance and the much-anticipated bout was cancelled.

Wilder, 32, will top the bill at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn in March and it’s expected that the winner of the fight will take on Anthony Joshua.

The ‘Bronze Bomber’ will be making the seventh defence of the WBC title he won back in January 2015.

His 38-year-old Cuban opponent Ortiz is yet to be beaten in the heavyweight division and most recently defeated American star Daniel Martz.

Before that, Ortiz recorded a victory over Britain’s David Allen with a knockout in the seventh round at the Manchester Arena.

Wilder is also unbeaten in the division after 39 wins and will go into the fight with confidence following a crushing first round defeat of Bermane Stiverne.

The American’s team continue to talk with Joshua’s camp over a unification bout in 2018.

It’s understood the iconic Brit is on the verge of announcing a fight with WBO champion Joseph Parker.
