Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid have agreed on a deal for Brazilian defender Joao Miranda, according to reports in the Italian media. Los Rojiblancos will receive around €15m for the 30-year-old centre-back, although payment terms  are yet to be disclosed.

Negotiations moved forward at the beginning of the week following interest from other clubs, including AC Milan, with both clubs reaching a satisfactory agreement after the Italian club offered €12 million euros and Los Rojiblancos asked for €16m for the defender, who was under contract until 2016.

Miranda is the first signing of the summer for Inter’s Indonesian president Erick Thohir. The Brazilian defender had attracted interest from various Premier League clubs last year, but any possible deals broke down after Atlético triggered the player’s buyout clause. This year is a different story, however, due to the progression of José María Giménez.

The player from Paranavaí made 23 appearances for Atlético last season and is currently on duty with Brazil in the Copa América in Chile and is a key player in Dunga’s side.
