The Blues need to produce an immediate response to correct the wrongs on what went down in gameweek 13 of the 2021/22 Premier League season

Chelsea have been unanimously backed by all of Paul Merson, Michael Owen and Mark Lawrenson to get back on the right track against Watford in the Premier League after the latest Manchester United set back.

The Blues suffered an unexpected set back in their early season title challenge after a depleted Red Devils outfit managed to come away from the capital with a point as they prepare for life under new interim boss Ralph Rangnick.

For the European Champions however, the implications of that result were not great, with their slender lead now only one over Man City and two over Liverpool who are currently third in the standings after their most recent win over Southampton.

Next up on the agenda for the west Londoners is an injury hit Watford outfit who have seen a recent upturn in results despite the most recent 4-2 defeat against Leicester City last weekend.

Their 4-1 demolition of Chelsea's most recent opponents has shown that the Hertfordshire based outfit are capable of pulling off shock results at any point.

Tuchel himself has seen the impact his opposite number Claudio Ranieri has had since he has taken the reins over from Xisco Munoz, who was the first managerial casualty of the season.

In his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the German rightfully pointed out: "We see a difference in data and the style of the games since he joined the club. They play with more confidence and, especially at home, they try to implement high pressing and are very active.

"They try to be brave and courageous and they had a great result against Man United. They try to play with more emotion, more effort, to get the crowd behind them and create an atmosphere that helps them.

"Claudio Ranieri speaks for himself what he did in the Premier League. He had so many clubs and is such an experienced coach. It will be a pleasure to meet him; it will be the first time I meet him in person and play against him. We will do our best to get the three points tomorrow."

With the current table toppers the overwhelming favourites to dismantle an injury hit Hornets side, do the pundits think that it will be as straightforward for the Blues as many expect?

The short answer to this question is yes, so with that in mind, here's what each of Merson, Owen and Lawrenson have said ahead of Wednesday night.

Paul Merson (via Sportskeeda)

"This is a dangerous game for Chelsea. Claudio Ranieri is not under much pressure at Watford. He knows the Premier League and with the way Watford play, Chelsea's defense will be tested. Ranieri will open games up in the Premier League this season and you won’t see many draws with Watford’s brand of football.

"Chelsea dominated over the weekend, but Manchester United sat deep and didn’t give them any space. Timo Werner didn’t really look like scoring, and I think Kai Havertz’s intelligence could play a big part against Watford.

"Mason Mount was also a huge miss against Manchester United – he should be playing this game. It’s only a matter of time before Chelsea go back to steamrolling opponents, and I’d back them to win this match."

"Prediction: Watford 1-3 Chelsea."

"Watford host Premier League leaders Chelsea at Vicarage Road where Claudio Ranieri will face off against his former side.

"The Blues were held at home last time out against Man Utd, so will be all too aware of Manchester City and Liverpool breathing down their necks.

"Whilst the Hornets have improved under Ranieri, this is a whole different test. I don’t think there will be a lot in it, although I do expect the visitors to make the short trip home with all three points in the bag."

"Prediction: Watford 0-2 Chelsea."

Mark Lawrenson (via BBC Sport)

"Chelsea did not get the result they wanted against Manchester United on Sunday, but their performance was really good.

"I'd imagine we will see more of Blues striker Romelu Lukaku here after he came off the bench late on against United, and that is not good news for Watford.

"Hornets boss Claudio Ranieri lost out to one of his former clubs, Leicester, on Saturday, and I don't think he will have much joy against Chelsea either.

"Prediction: Watford 0-3 Chelsea."
