The ASB Classic is in danger of being washed out for a second consecutive day, with tennis action in Auckland postponed throughout Friday morning.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds forced Classic organisers to cancel all play on Thursday and schedule additional matches on Friday.

However the heavens have remained open, and organisers have again been forced to halt play.

Conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon, yet forecasts predict similarly lousy weather - potentially pushing the women's singles quarter-finals, semi- finals and final into a busy Saturday and Sunday.

The women's doubles semi-finals and final must also take place.

"You've always got options - at the end of the day, we have a tennis tournament to complete," Classic director Karl Budge said on Friday.

"Mother nature is certainly not making it as straightforward as we'd like."

Budge said he wouldn't move the singles competition indoors either - once again raising the spectre of a long-promised roof for the Auckland arena.

The weather has wreaked havoc with the Classic's schedule this week, with Monday afternoon a near washout and play going past 1am.
