Hockey writers Jim Matheson and Robert Tychkowski talk to sports editor Craig Ellingson about the struggles the Edmonton Oilers have on home ice and whether their poor performance against a lowly Buffalo Sabres squad could segue to immediate staff changes.

That shutout loss by a listless lineup didn’t help the Oilers in the standings, of course, but also didn’t help quell the fears and fury of a disappointed fanbase — disappointed in how inconsistent the team has been in 2017-18 after a fine 103-point, second-playoff-round-appearance camping a year before.

The outcome of Thursday’s game against Calgary could be a tipping point for the oilers if they lose. Lose badly like they did the previous game against Buffalo, and heads are likely to roll.
