SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry scored 33 points and Klay Thompson added 19, leading the Warriors to a 123-110 victory over the Miami Heat.
Curry emphatically pumped his chest after hitting a 3-pointer over Tyler Herro in the fourth quarter. Curry’s basket, his sixth 3 on the night, put the Warriors up 108-100 with 5:31 remaining. The Heat called a timeout to regroup.
But the Warriors held on for the rest of the way.
Curry hit a 3-pointer at the top of the key to make it 116-105 with less than three minutes remaining. He finished with a game-high 33 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
Two days after earning his first career ejection after an up-close-and-personal spat with Devin Booker, Klay Thompson scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half.
Thompson made his presence known early in Thursday’s game against the Heat in what was otherwise and up-and-down showing from the 32-year-old guard.
Thompson, who scored only two points against the Suns, opened the game with a 3-pointer and then a backdoor cutting layup for a quick five points. He went cold after that, finishing the first half with just seven points in about 14 minutes. Thompson started the third quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers, the second one coming off a Curry steal.
Thompson went 6-for-19 from the field and 5-for-14 from deep.
After giving up 70 or more first-half points in each of the last three games, the Warriors held the Heat to 59 on Thursday. However, Jimmy Butler had been a problem for Golden State all night. He scored 20 points in the opening two quarters, but the Warriors held him to just seven points in the second half. Butler, who had eight assists, finished with six steals.
The Warriors led by as many as 13 in the first half, but the Heat remained close behind. The two swapped leads four times in the third quarter, but the Warriors maintained control throughout the fourth.
JaMychal Green blocked a Gabe Vincent shot at the buzzer to keep the Warriors up 92-87 heading into the fourth.
Draymond Green contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Andrew Wiggins has seemingly picked up where he left off last season, finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Jordan Poole added 11 points off the bench and James Wiseman had 10 points and six rebounds.
The Warriors (3-2) will travel to Charlotte to kickoff a five-city road trip out east Saturday against the Hornets.
