Liverpool welcome Tottenham to Anfield on Sunday as they look to close the gap to second-place Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp's side are currently third in the Premier League, six points behind the Red Devils but with a game in hand, and they come into the match against Spurs on the back of a win over Huddersfield Town.

Tottenham also come into the game on a high, having comfortably beaten Man United 2-0 during the week, and they can leapfrog the Reds into third place with a win.

Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino's side arguably boast a psychological edge over their hosts, having thrashed them 4-1 at Wembley back in October.

GAME PREVIEW

Liverpool were totally outclassed by Tottenham when the sides met in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season and they will be determined to avoid a repeat of that at home.

Klopp's men responded to that defeat by going on an 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions, a streak that was only halted towards the end of last month, and they will attempt to summon the same winning mindset at Anfield on Sunday.

Tottenham, on the other hand, followed up that October triumph by losing twice in a row and their form had been patchy for months thereafter. However, they have since stabilised somewhat and have not lost a game since mid December.

Given that the Reds and Spurs are in direct competition for a top-four finish and, with only two points separating them in the league, the importance of this game is magnified considerably so there is sure to be an added layer of tension on Merseyside.
