Manchester United have rejected a bid from Borussia Dortmund to take Jadon Sancho back on loan.

The sneaky swoop from the Germans comes exactly two years after they sold him to United for a whopping £73million.

The Reds have dismissed the Borussia inquiry out of hand as they have no intention of allowing Sancho, 23, to return there on a temporary basis.

They are, however, willing to listen to those clubs interested in buying the England winger on a permanent basis.

Anything in the region of £45m may prove sufficient for them to do business this summer and cut their losses on a player that has failed to live up to expectations following his arrival in July 2021.

Sancho’s first season was beset by injury, a situation compounded by the loss of form, which had made him one of the most wanted youngsters in world football.

And, despite spending time away in the Netherlands early last season - to recuperate physically and mentally - the ex-Manchester City youth product has still produced only glimpses of his quality.

United’s Dutch boss Erik ten Hag appears to have decided he can wait no longer for Sancho, who has not played for England since being dropped prior to the World Cup finals, to come good again.

Sancho has scored only nine times in 55 league games for United compared to 38 in 104 for Borussia in the Bundesliga.

Brazilian winger Antony is normally Ten Hag’s first choice on the right while the £60m signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea will drop Sancho, with 23 England caps, further down the pecking order.

Tottenham are also monitoring developments but, having just bought James Maddison from Leicester, are likely to pursue other targets away from Sancho.
