Norwich City have been beaten to the signature of Real Madrid attacker Reinier Jesus, according to reports from his native Brazil.

The 21-year-old is not part of Carlo Ancelotti's plans at the Bernabeu, and has been looking for an exit route this summer to play first-team football elsewhere.

Brazilian TV station Globo have credited the Canaries with an interest in Reinier, but claim the Spanish giants have instead agreed a deal with Italian Serie A side Frosinone for a season-long loan.

The under-23 international came through the ranks at Flamengo before joining Real in a £26million transfer in 2020. He's spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund and impressed while with Girona, but hasn't yet appeared for Los Blancos' first team.

City are known to be in the market for a striker, after head coach David Wagner ruled Josh Sargent out for months rather than weeks with an ankle ligament injury. Sargent was the Norfolk club's top goal getter last season, and had already scored three times in four Championship games this term.

Norwich are interested in Everton striker Tom Cannon amongst a number of others, with sporting director Stuart Webber hoping to conclude a deal for a front man before Friday's transfer deadline.

He's working with a limited budget, however, having spent less than £2million in transfer fees to bring seven senior players to Carrow Road this summer.

Wagner has discussed attacking midfielders Liam Gibbs and Marcelino Nunez as potential options in his forward line, but refused to rule out any late moves in the market after Tuesday's 1-0 win over Bristol City.

Only Adam Idah and Ashley Barnes are left as senior career strikers for the German, who also said winger-turned-full-back Przemyslaw Placheta could fill in up front.

Wagner will be encouraged by positive starts to the season from both strikers, after they've scored two league goals each already. Idah has struggled with injury throughout his young career, however, adding to concerns about depth in forward areas.
