Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that forward Joaquin Correa never showed his desire at Inter Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the former defender gave his thoughts on why Correa was never really able to win over the Nerazzurri fans in his two seasons at the club.

Correa will not be an Inter player this season.

The Argentine has made the switch to Marseille on a season-long loan.

It is not yet definitive that Correa’s Nerazzurri adventure is over. Marseille will have an obligation to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis if they qualify for the Champions League, but there is of course no guarantee of that happening.

Still, the sense is that one way or another, time has run out for Correa at Inter.

The Argentine arrived with real expectations for Lazio in 2021.

Correa began his Inter career with a match-winning brace in his debut against Hellas Verona. This seemed to promise a lot from him in a Nerazzurri shirt.

But injuries and fitness problems played a big role in disrupting Correa’s momentum at Inter.

And Bergomi feels that there was also a psychological aspect that prevented Correa from finding form at Inter.

Bergomi Says Joaquin Correa Never Showed “Desire” At Inter Milan

Bergomi mused that “The crowd at San Siro can sometimes be ruthless, and once they target you, you’re in trouble.”

“But sometimes it doesn’t take much to win them back,” he continued. “It can be enough to see some desire. A recovery, a tackle.”

The former defender said of Correa that “He never showed that. Perhaps he doesn’t have it inside him.”

Bergomi also observed that “Sanchez’s arrival surprised me because he didn’t seem to leave on good terms.”

The former defender observed of Sanchez that “He demanded more playing time, but in my view there were better ways for him to fo that.”

“Last season he scored fourteen [Ligue 1] goals, he had a good season. He has personality, and has the right kind of charisma.”

“Obviously he will have to accept that there will be rotations,” Bergomi suggested.

And of the arrival of Marko Arnautovic, Bergomi said that “Sometimes you sign your last choice, but find that it’s the one that works out best.”
