Final Hammers points total

We asked Claret and Hugh‘s work experience lad Rory Matloob to give a game by game commentary on West Ham’s remaining fixtures and he came up with a final Hammers points total from the 13 games.

With West Ham winless in eight matches, any game in this current moment looks to be a difficult one. But who’s going to pull them out of trouble as they look to turn this bad run of form around?

Brentford (H):

Like the Hammers the Bees are also struggling to pick up wins in recent weeks. In their last ten matches they have only managed two wins. With Brentford being riddled with injuries this season to the likes of Rico Henry, Bryan Mbeumo and Aaron Hickey it is clear to see why they have dropped off from last season. A Monday night kick off at the London stadium should see the fans riled up, a close encounter but West Ham should do enough, a 1-0 victory for the home side.

Everton (A):

Despite Everton’s ten points deduction and recent poor form with zero wins in their last five games, the Toffees still stand a chance of staying in the division if they don’t get hit with another point deduction. With Everton in desperate need of points and West Ham having a good record recently at Goodison with two wins in their last three trips I can see this game being a cagey affair, 1-1 draw.

Burnley (H):

Burnley look certain to go down this season and  from a neutral perspective many believed that Vincent Kompany’s side would avoid relegation with ease. However, that hasn’t been the case. The Clarets are currently sat in nineteenth position, seven points off survival. West Ham shouldn’t have any trouble in this one, a comfortable 2-0 home victory.

Aston Villa (H):

Since taking over as Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has done an exceptional job, however in recent weeks they haven’t looked like the team that were playing at the start of the season. In recent weeks Newcastle ended their eleven months home unbeaten record in the Premier League, they were knocked out of the FA cup by a Chelsea team who have underperformed massively this season and Manchester United came to Villa Park and nicked a late winner to add even more misery for their fans this month. I do believe that Villa will be too strong for West Ham though as they look to stay in the top four battle, a 3-1 victory for the away side.

Newcastle (A):

This season Newcastle haven’t even looked like half the team they were compared to the last, injuries to Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman and a ten-month suspension to marquee signing Sandro Tonali has had a huge effect on the pitch. Newcastle will just have too much class on the day for the Hammers, a 2-0 win for the home side.

Tottenham (H):

It’s always a feisty game and despite it being behind closed doors nobody will forget when West Ham came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Tottenham’s ground after Manuel Lanzini scored an absolute sensational goal in the dying moments of the match. This season Tottenham look to have a set style of play under Ange Postecoglou and despite some freakish results it’s clear what the Australian is trying to do at the club. The away side will have too much firepower on the day, a 2-0 victory for Spurs.

Wolves (A):

With Julien Lopetegui deciding to leave the club five days before their opening fixture against Manchester United it looked certain Wolves were destined for the drop. Nevertheless, since Gary O’Neil has walked in the door at Molineux, they have looked superb having beaten the likes of Manchester City, Spurs home and away, Chelsea. This won’t be an easy game for West Ham as Wolves always make it difficult for any away side coming to their ground, a goalless draw.

Fulham (H):

Fulham this season have been a strange team to watch… currently they have two wins in their last nine matches but also are sitting comfortably above the drop zone. Last time out when the teams met at Craven Cottage Fulham showed no mercy with West Ham, comfortably beating them 5-0 on the night. As West Ham look for revenge at the London Stadium, I believe they will bounce back with a 2-1 victory.

3 points

Crystal Palace (A):

Selhurst Park is never an easy ground to travel too, the Palace fans always make it a tough battle for the opposition team. With the new appointment of Oliver Glasner, Palace will be aiming to now start picking up points again after a dreadful run of form, when with two wins in their last ten matches a new managerial appointment was on the cards. This will be a difficult game for West Ham, and I do believe they will struggle on the day, a 3-1 win for Crystal Palace as they look to get back on track under Glasner.

Liverpool (H):

After Klopp announced this will be his final season in Merseyside the Liverpool players are going to do everything possible to send him out on the highest note possible, a Premier League title. When Liverpool are in a title run-in they don’t slip up, normally it’s just the excellence of Man City where they fall just short. For this game I believe Liverpool will control most parts of it and come away from the London stadium with a 4-1 victory.

Chelsea (A):

With all the money Chelsea spent in the summer of 2023 it’s certain they have severely under-performed. The signings of Moises Caicedo, Malo Gusto and Nicholas Jackson were all expected to transform the team. Unfortunately for Chelsea, big signings such as Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku have failed to make an impact due to injuries, on a positive note Cole Palmer has looked like one of the signings of the season. For this game I believe it will be an enjoyable watch as both teams aren’t great at defending, a 2-2 draw.

1 point

Luton (H):

This season Luton have been a breath of fresh air to watch. With many predicting the club to not stand a chance back in the Premier League they look like the club out of the promoted teams from last season who have a chance to stay in the Premier League. Rob Edwards has done a superb job this season as he’s worked on a low budget, the work he has done with Ross Barkley to transform him back into the player Chelsea signed from Everton in 2018 has been exceptional. The central midfielder could also be in contention for an England call up. With Luton scrapping for points as they look to stay in the division, I believe this will be a close affair, a 3-3 draw.

Man City (A):

When it comes to the end of the season, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola do not let any games get away from them. As the pressure builds on them it’s almost as if they thrive more off the high-pressure moments. Guardiola will be hoping Klopp doesn’t get his perfect goodbye, I believe the title will once again go down to the final day as Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City compete to get their hands on the Premier League trophy. Similar to previous years it is always City who come out on top, and I can’t see anything different happening, a 2-0 win for City as Pep gets his hands on his sixth Premier League title and breaks a record for winning the league four years in a row.
