At least six Liverpool players could say farewell after Wolves match

The latest Liverpool news as it's set to be an emotional afternoon at Anfield with three big departures already confirmed by the club.

The latest Liverpool news as it's set to be an emotional afternoon at Anfield with three big departures already confirmed by the club.

The final match of the season against Wolves will be one to remember for those in attendance at Anfield, but probably not because of the action on the field.

The game will be manager Jurgen Klopp’s final one in charge of the club, bringing an end to a memorable nine-year spell. The German announced earlier this season that he was leaving the club.

It’s set to be an emotional afternoon as the manager says his final goodbye to the Liverpool fans. But Klopp will not be the only one whose final game it will be, here’s a look at some of the other goodbyes that could take place this weekend.

It has been confirmed by the club that defender Joel Matip will leave at the end of his contract after eight years at Anfield. The 32-year-old has been out of action since December due to a cruciate ligament tear.

Midfielder Thiago will also leave the club at the end of his contract in the summer. The 33-year-old has been with Liverpool since 2020 but has only managed one appearance this season due to injury.

Both players will be available on free transfers in the summer but it is still to be seen where they will end up. The duo will have the chance to say goodbye to Liverpool fans after the game against Wolves.

Another player who is expected to leave is third-choice goalkeeper Adrian. The 37-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has already spoken about his desire to move back to Spain.

Away from those out of contract, there is also uncertainty over the future of second-choice Caoimhin Kelleher, who could move on in search of more first-team football. He has already revealed that there were discussions with Klopp over his future last summer, with the Republic of Ireland international keen to play more.

Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker also continue to be linked with moves to Saudi Arabia in the summer. The Reds rejected a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah on deadline day last summer, but he will be entering the final year of his contract when the current window opens, meaning it may not be so easy to resist big-money offers.

Alisson is under contract until 2027 but is believed to be of interest to clubs in the Saudi Pro League. The departure of Klopp could lead to uncertainty over some of his key players with Alisson being one of those, they are by no means guaranteed to leave the club before next season though.

It’s not just Klopp and some members of the playing staff who Liverpool will be saying goodbye to in the final game of the season either. Six members of the coaching staff are also set to follow Klopp out of the door.

Assistant manager Pep Lijnders is joining Red Bull Salzburg and is being joined by fellow coach Vitor Matos. Another coach in John Achterberg is joining Steven Gerrard at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.

Goalkeeper coach Jack Robinson, fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer, and head of recovery and performance Andreas Schlumberger will all be saying goodbye in the final games of the season. It will therefore be a season of big change at Anfield.
