The 3 Rangers curveballs Clement could opt for to throw Benfica off

It's all eyes on the quarter-finals for Rangers tonight and Clement could throw a couple of curveballs into the mix.

It's all eyes on the quarter-finals for Rangers tonight and Clement could throw a couple of curveballs into the mix.

Philippe Clement might be wishing he was a doctor but a win and progress to the Europa League quarter-finals is all the medicine Rangers need.

The Belgian has been left licking his wounds yet again and once more it's in the wide positions with Dujon Sterling, who has played right-back, centre-mid and most recently on the wing, out of their massive clash with Benfica at Ibrox. He limped off against Hibs on Sunday along with Ross McCausland - though the latter may just be fit to start if needed.

Any win for Rangers will do after last week's 2-2 draw in Lisbon and there is better news where Todd Cantwell is concerned - though caution from Clement over his ability to play 90 minutes hinted Thursday night's clash might just come too early. He said ahead of the Benfica showdown: "Todd is ready to play a number of minutes as discussed with the medical staff, clearly not ready for 90 minutes. He was good in the training and I'm happy to see him back.

"Dujon (Sterling) will not be in the squad, it is a minor issue but we won't take the risk - we will see where he is ahead of Sunday. Ross McCausland did one part of training today and we will see tomorrow how he is."

Predicted Rangers XI

Cantwell isn't fully ready for 90 minutes and given he hasn't started in nearly a month, a substitute role seems his most likely source of involvement in this one. That means another start for Tom Lawrence, who scored in that first leg, looks highly likely.

Fabio Silva should start off the left again with Cyriel Dessers up top - but what about the right wing? Rabbi Matondo was the man introduced for McCausland against Hibs, but youngster Cole McKinnon has given Clement food for thought recently, while there is also the prospect of Kemar Roofe coming in to start in an all-out attacking lineup. If McCausland is close to fitness, though, he should start.
