Corry's football team will be playing on the grass turf Friday night at North East's Ted Miller Stadium for the final time.

The Grape Pickers will be going to all-weather turf next season, as most every team around has done.

Regardless, the Beavers will have to be at their best as NE has won four straight games and leads Region 5 with a 3-0 record.

"We have to be more physical on the offensive line," claimed coach Jeff Goodwill about facing the talented Pickers. "We've been challenging those guys all week to run off the football and get some push. Defensively, we'll have to put some pressure on their experienced QB and bottle up (quarterback) Jackson Humes whenever they try to get him the ball.

"Offensively, they will spread the ball out and get it to their athletes," he admitted. "They are pretty even run/pass, and they have a very talented back and receiving core. Their QB, Humes, has played since he was a freshman. He is one of the top quarterbacks in our region. Receiver Jamari Curlett is the best athlete in our region.

Michael O'Brien (67), Hayden Tomcho (69) and Noah Fisher (with flag) follow the cheerleaders.

"Defensively, they stay pretty basic," he said. "They are a 4-4, and we'll see mostly Cover 1. They have a physical front that we'll have to have an answer for if we want to move the football.”

If it rains, might that be a factor?

"It could be cold, windy and rainy Friday night. We're going to embrace that," Goodwill said.

Last year at Sheen Field, Corry scored 19 points in the fourth quarter to pull off a 32-12 victory. Tony Brutcher returned a blocked field goal 94 yards, and for the second straight week, Mason Savitz had a touchdown after an interception.

Nolan Carey carried the ball 12 times for 106 yards including an 81-yard TD run in the fourth period. He was 5 of 11 passing for 89 yards.

NE quarterback Humes was 12 for 33 for 101 yards and one score.

The Pickers are coming off a 31-0 win over Lutheran, Ohio. Humes was 12 of 18 passing including a school record four TD passes to Curlett, who had 129 yards receiving and now has 11 touchdown catches.

Two weeks ago, North East was a 14-7 winner over Fort LeBoeuf as Humes hooked up with Carter Crozier on a scoring pass and Curlett ran 55 yards for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Corry has its second Thursday night game on Oct. 12 when the Beavers host Girard.
