According to Sky Italia, Roma have been in contact with Real Madrid to negotiate a loan deal, with the option to buy, for Fábio Coentrao. The Italian club have been roaming the summer transfer market in search of a proven left-back to occupy the position currently held by Ashley Cole.
Coentrao has been on the verge of leaving Los Blancos on a number of occasions. Two years ago he was a whisker away from signing for Benfica in a move that finally broke down through bureaucratic complications. The Portuguese defender, often blighted by injury, is aware that his chances of ousting Marcelo in the left-back position are slim, which is why he may be keen on a move away from Madrid.
