Joan Laporta is putting together his candidacy ahead of next Monday, when he will finally confirm his intention to run for the Barça president post. He is a veteran of these campaigns and is aware of the impact these media boosts can have in swaying the mind of the many undecided voters. The former president (2003-2010) is negotiation with Eric Abidal to see if the former Barça player will join his campaign team. Carles Puyol has already signed up to support Laporta. Abidal is undecided as living away from Spain was part of his future plans after he left Greek side, Olympiakos. Laporta is also trying to secure the support of Albert Luque. The former Barça youth player who scored success at Mallorca and Deportivo, had the chance to come back to the club and his signing was requested by Etoo.
Laporta is being patient but moving behind the scenes. Securing support from the likes of Puyol, Abidal and Luque would portray a convincing candidacy with the approval of Johan Cruyff, who is an unconditional supporter of the former president.
