The Eagles have added Erdal Rakip and Jaroslaw Jach to their squad this month.

And the club remains in pursuit of Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, Lille central defender Ibrahim Amadou and a new striker.

But boss Hodgson dismissed reports of signing Burnley forward Ashley Barnes.

"He's a player we like and are still pursuing," the 70-year-old responded when asked of Spaniard Guaita. "It would be nice if he could come in during the January window, and it's something the chairman (Steve Parish) and (sporting director) Dougie Freedman are trying to do.

"Another name we've talked about (is Amadou), but it's a deal or a decision or a situation being dealt with by the chairman and the sporting director.

"The first I'd heard of (an approach for Barnes was on Sky Sports News). No truth in it at all. But he's a good player.

"Success would be if we get cover in the areas we're talking about: goalkeeper and centre-forward.

"It's a dogfight extraordinaire. It could continue right up to the wire."
