The Portland Timbers took advantage of two corner kicks for a pair of goals on the road Wednesday, but defensive lapses doomed them in a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park.
The Timbers took an early lead on a goal by Cristhian Paredes but gave the lead away before halftime. Bill Tuiloma evened the game in the second half, but Portland couldn’t get to the finish line and allowed a game-winning goal to San Jose’s Jamiro Monteiro in the 80th minute.
