After a pretty successful opening day, we are back for more with the best bets on the men’s side of Day 2 of the French Open. Let’s see where the bookmakers left value on the table for this set of first-round matches.
French Open Day 2 Men’s Best Bets
Novak Djokovic vs Yoshihito Nishioka
Starting with the selection I believe in the most, the over/under games line was drawn in an intriguing spot at 26.5, essentially allowing Nishioka eight games in a Djokovic win. In five previous sets the two have played against each other, Djokovic allowed an average of two games and never more than three, which makes me believe this is quite likely for Djokovic to execute. The quality gulf between the two should be accentuated by the surface compared to their previous meetings on hard. The fact that Nishioka only won two games against No. 480 Ugo Blanchet in Lyon qualifying last week only increases my confidence here.
Recommended selection:
Djokovic ML and under 26.5 games – 2 units @ -111 (1.90, 9/10)
Alessandro Giannessi vs Borna Gojo
Giannessi’s year has been a rollercoaster. The Italian has played almost exclusively on clay this year, which he began by losing his first four matches on the surface. Giannessi then enjoyed a good period on the Challenger tour, reaching a final and two semifinals in three consecutive events. The 31-year-old came into Roland Garros qualifying on a three-match losing streak but performed pretty well in wins over Mats Moraing and Thiago Agustin Tirante before Sebastian Ofner took him out. Gojo is one of the worse qualifiers in this draw but did pull off wins over out-of-form Gianluca Mager and Juan Ignacio Londero. Giannessi is a slight favorite for me, probably around the -130 area but the bookmakers priced him as an outsider, giving us some value.
Recommended selection:
Giannessi ML – 1.5 units @ +120 (2.20, 6/5)

Norbert Gombos vs Pedro Cachin
We’re going to go a bit more daring with the final selection once again. We have another qualifier versus lucky loser match-up here where the lucky loser looks arguably better heading into it. Cachin has been great on clay this season, winning two Challenger titles and reaching a Challenger 125 final. In qualifying, the Argentine lost to Pavel Kotov in the final qualifying round, who has also been amongst the best Challenger players on clay this year. Gombos has been looking shaky all year, even in his run to the Murcia Challenger final and qualifying here. I see this match-up about even but the bookmakers have priced Cachin as a -200 favorite, which creates a really good slice of value for us betting on Gombos. I decided to enhance it further, as this match is unlikely to finish in straight sets, taking us up to +260.
Recommended selection:
Gombos ML and both to win a set – 1.5 units @ +260 (3.60, 13/5)
