Andy Carroll was rejected by Champions League side Club Brugge over 'insufficient medical tests' as the Englishman looks for a new club.

Carroll is trying to find a new home after leaving West Brom this summer - who he only joined in January. However, that club won't be Belgian champions Club Brugge, who had shown interest in the big man.

According to Belgian outlet HLN, Brugge wanted to sign the Englishman, in what could have potentially handed him a Champions League debut. But 'insufficient' medical tests mean the Belgians won't hand Carroll a trial over the summer.

Despite once moving to Liverpool from Newcastle for a then British transfer record fee of £35million in 2011, Carroll has struggled for fitness over his career. He hasn't played more than 20 league games in a season since the 2015/16 term at West Ham.

The 6ft 4in target man has suffered a spell of serious injuries, most notably a torn MCL at the Hammers. A couple of seasons later a series of ankle injuries saw Carroll forced into surgery after missing almost 30 games for East London side.

However, Carroll was able to stay relatively fit in the West Midlands, and managed 15 appearances for the Baggies in the second half of the campaign.

Club Brugge sprung a couple of surprises in Europe last season, despite finishing bottom of Group A in the Champions League.

The Belgian side held the superstars of PSG to a 1-1 draw at home before taking all three points in a smash-and-grab performance against RB Leipzig.
