The Rider Broncs will play the Providence Friars in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Rider Broncs were 14-19 (8-12) last season and finished tied for 7th in the MAAC standings. Rider won their first two games in the MAAC Tournament against Manhattan and Iona, but lost to Monmouth by a score of 72-68. Rider lost Dimencio Vaughn from last year, who averaged 12.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, but still return three players that averaged at least 11 points per game. Rider also adds three transfers this season, two of which were from other division one programs. Rider returns a lot of production from last season and should be improved, but I don’t think they have enough to contend for a conference title this year.
The Providence Friars were 27-6 (14-3) last season and finished in first place in the Big East regular season standings. Providence won their first game in the Big East Tournament, but lost to Creighton in their next game by a score of 85-58. Providence did make it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament by defeating South Dakota State and Richmond, but lost to Kansas by a score of 66-61. Providence lost a lot of production from last season, but bring in five transfers to try and replace the lost scoring. Providence is probably going to need some time to figure things out this season, but I don’t think they will come close to repeating as Big East champs.

Rider is 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 road games and 10-4 ATS in their last 15 games. The over is 4-0 in Rider’s last 4 games. Providence is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games. The under is 4-1 in Providence’s last 5 games.
Rider may very well be the better team in this matchup as they return a good amount of production, compared to a Providence team that has to replace all five starters. It will be interesting to see how quickly Providence can put the pieces together, but I expect them to struggle here. I like Rider with the points.
