A Much Needed Run for Munar
It has been largely a disappointing season so far for Munar, who began the year ranked 58 in the world, but who has since dropped out of the top 100,
However, reaching the quarter-final in Croatia means that he is pointing in the right direction again.
His campaign began with a match against a familiar opponent, compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the number eight seed, and, having taken the first set, Munar had to cope with the disappointment of losing the second, being reasserting himself in the third.
The world number eight, Fabian Maroszan of Hungary was his next opponent, and, in a first set largely dominated by serve, it was the Spaniard who secured the all-important break.
An early break in the second set strengthened Munar’s position even more, and a later break was just the icing on the cake.
It is a much needed quarter-final appearance for the man from Spain.

Sonego Wins Late Night Italian Battle
Sonego is pursuing what would be the second clay court title of his career, and the first since Sardinia two years ago.
Having not won since reaching the second round in Halle meant that his confidence was not at its highest going into this event, although being given a first round bye helped.
But he will be feeling better about life after a win over compatriot Marco Cecchinato, the world number 96, that threatened to go deep into the night.
Sonego dominated the first set, racing into a four love lead with two breaks secured, For good measure he wrapped it up with another one.
The second set was a different thing altogether, even though Sonego was the first to go a break up, because Cecchinato recovered it immediately.
Thereafter neither could make much of an impression on the other’s serve, and it went to a tie-break.
Sonego went a mini-break up, but the momentum shifted and Cecchinato had a set point.
This time it was Sonego who fought back, only to have a match point saved. Finally he made his second count, avoiding it going to a third set.
Sonego v Munar Prediction and Tip
Sonego was ultimately made to work harder than he might have liked to beat his compatriot, but, having done so, will be confident of getting past Munar who has been struggling for form this year.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Sonego to win: 7/11
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
