Sean Brady weighs in on the UFC 296 main event between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, and says he’ll be supporting the challenger.

UFC welterweight Sean Brady not only believes Colby Covington will defeat Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 296 to capture the welterweight title, but he’s also rooting for his fellow countryman to get it done.

“I have Colby,” Brady said recently on The MMA Hour. “I feel like Americans don’t support their own. I feel like all these other countries — we have guys from Uzbekistan in our gym, these guys fight, and our teammate just [won] a fight on short notice, he’s from Uzbekistan. He went home and met his president and had a parade and all this. I come home and Philly, they don’t like ... we don’t support our own the way we should. So I’m trying to support all Americans no matter what.”

Brady is trying to climb the 170-pound ladder himself in hopes of finding himself in a world championship bout in the future. The 31-year-old recently bounced back from his first loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC 280 in October 2022 with a dominant third-round submission win over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Austin earlier this month.

While Brady is showing pride towards his fellow American mixed martial artist heading into the final UFC main event of 2023, he also believes that Covington’s skill set — despite being out of action for nearly two years following a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 in March 2022 — will make a difference.

“I do think Colby can get it done,” Brady explained. “Outside of the cringy stuff, he’s a really good fighter. I know people who know him personally, and they say in the gym he’s a great fighter, and he’s a really good person outside of the gimmick. So I hope he gets it done.”
