WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Keiser University has won its first national championship in football in program history.
The Seahawks defeated Northwestern College of Iowa 31-21 on Monday afternoon in the NAIA Football Championship in Durham, North Carolina.
After losing to the Red Raiders in last season's national championship game, the Seahawks took an early 17-0 lead and never looked back, holding a 17-7 halftime advantage.
The Red Raiders cut the deficit to 3 in the fourth quarter before Keiser put it away on a kick return for a touchdown.
After starting the season 1-2, Keiser finished on an 11-game winning streak.
