Central Missouri Humane Society finds a new location to call home
The Central Missouri Humane Society (CMHS) announced Thursday morning the acquisition of a 17.5-acre property for its new shelter facility.
CMHS has been operating out of its current building since 1976. Over the years, the shelter has heavily degraded as thousands of animals have come through the doors and later found homes.
A local engineering firm is assisting the Humane Society as they move through the process of re-zoning the property specifically for CMHS use.
Fulton Police Department introduces community camera safety initiative
The Fulton Police Department introduced a new voluntary initiative called the Community Camera Program on Wednesday.
"Surveillance cameras on houses and Ring doorbells are so prevalent now," Ladwig said. "The video is so sharp and clear. Video from a house in the area where maybe something had happened or at a neighbor's house, can be very helpful for us to catch the perpetrators and solve that incident."
He said hopefully in the near future, the department will have examples of how the new program helped solve a crime.
Casa Maria's owner charged with arson requests change of venue
The attorney for a Columbia woman charged with arson in Dunklin County filed a motion for a change of venue Wednesday.
Umfress, 42, was released on a $65,000 bond on Oct. 10 following her arrest on Oct. 5. She is required to wear an ankle monitor for GPS monitoring and is only allowed to leave home for work or any medical/legal appointments as part of a condition of her bond.
Raymond, of Gideon, is also charged with arson in the second degree. His case was moved from Dunklin County to Stoddard County in November.
Employees accused of selling drugs at Kingdom City hotel
Two employees of Amerihost Inn Suites in Kingdom City were arrested for allegedly using and selling controlled substances at the hotel. The hotel's owner was also arrested on a charge of maintaining a public nuisance.
Deputies reportedly recovered 14.5 grams of methamphetamine from the operation and found digital weighing scales along with plastic bags, which is an indication of sales, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office says this is an ongoing investigation.
Audrain County Health Department to continue WIC services in 2024
The Audrain County Health Department (ACHD) announced Thursday it has signed a contract to continue providing the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for 2024.
WIC participants are local residents who meet WIC income guidelines and are determined by health professionals to be at nutritional risk. A family of four can make $4,625 per month and qualify for WIC.
