Ajax have made a surprise decision on their next manager as Man United manager Erik ten Hag continues to be put under pressure

Graham Potter, the former Chelsea and Brighton boss, has reportedly been added to Ajax's list of potential managers, alongside Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders and Manchester United's Erik ten Hag.

Alex Kroes, the new chief executive at Ajax, was surprised to learn that Potter might be open to a move to Holland to revive his career after being let go from Stamford Bridge nearly a year ago. Potter, who is 48 years old, has some supporters at the Amsterdam club due to his work at the Amex Stadium.

Some people have even suggested to Kroes that he should consider an English model for the club, especially after Ajax's 4-0 loss to Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League last week. The Mirror reports that Ajax are keeping an eye on Lijnders and their former coach Ten Hag.

Lijnders will be leaving Anfield when Jurgen Klopp steps down this summer, while Ten Hag is trying to secure his position at Old Trafford. Interestingly, Potter is also being considered as a possible replacement for Ten Hag at United.

Kroes has been given the job of turning things around at Ajax after a disappointing season that saw them end up at the bottom of the Eredivisie table for the first time ever. Kroes has visited both United and their rivals Manchester City as he plans to create a new structure at the Dutch club.

He was reportedly very impressed with the multi-club model he saw at the Etihad, as well as City's academy system and the playing style used by Pep Guardiola. John van 't Schip, the current boss of Ajax, will be leaving the club at the end of the season despite only taking on the role in October.

Now, Kroes is looking for a new manager, with Lijnders being seen as the best choice. Lijnders will be leaving Anfield with Jurgen Klopp when the season ends and he's gained a good reputation as an assistant manager.

But, Ten Hag might also get an offer from Kroes to leave United. The Reds have had a tough second season under the Dutchman and new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is thinking about other possible managers.

Ajax are adamant they won't pay for a new manager. But, this doesn't mean Ten Hag can't be approached as it is reported he might leave his contract at Old Trafford if Ratcliffe doesn't promise him enough control.

Ratcliffe is keeping a close eye on how United does in the last few weeks of the season. If they don't do well, Ten Hag might lose his job.

It's interesting to note that Kroes used to own a big part of the agency that represents Ten Hag. Even though he's now in charge of a club, Kroes is still good friends with Ten Hag's agent.
