Caicedo sends Chelsea dressing room message after 'difficult' bomb squad saga

WOLVES vs CHELSEA: Moises Caicedo captained Chelsea to victory over Servette in midweek and now he wants his team-mates to brush the outside noise to one side ahead of Sunday's crunch trip to Molineux

Moises Caicedo wants his fellow Chelsea stars to block out the noise - by winning matches and fighting for trophies.

The 22-year-old Ecuadorian midfield lynchpin captained the Blues to their first victory of the Enzo Maresca era on Thursday night as they battled past Swiss side Servette in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off.

However, the complexities surrounding Chelsea's heavily-inflated squad and Clearlake Capital's never-ending transfer spree have continued to dominate headlines - which Caicedo concedes is hard to ignore.

He said ahead of today's trip to Wolves : "It's so difficult but you have to focus on the games. We have to show the mentality to just enjoy the matches, play our own football and by doing that, I think you are able to concentrate.

"Sometimes you can feel the pressure here because you know it's a very good club. This is one of the best teams in the world but in every game you can grow and gain confidence - especially when we are playing at Stamford Bridge in front of our own fans."

Caicedo has been carrying a £115million price-tag upon his back since brutally snubbing Liverpool to sign a bumper eight-year contract in west London one year ago.

But now he is determined to justify the eye-watering British record transfer fee by becoming a pivotal figure within Maresca's dressing room, which has lost two valuable leaders this summer in the form of Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling.

He added: "I want to become a leader and help the team in the way I can help as that is my job. Being in the middle, you are looking everywhere and I'm here to help the team win titles, that is it.

"There is belief, we know the trophies and victories are going to arrive. It was a very good moment for me to be captain, I am so happy to wear the armband for the first time for this amazing club. I hope it's not going to be the last time, as well."

Caicedo makes no secret of the fact he is relishing the end of the summer transfer window when there will be clarity on exactly who is staying at the club. But he also made it known that new signings are always welcome at Chelsea as the Blues ponder a late swoop for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

He said when asked if the passing of the August 30 deadline could prove beneficial: "Yes but from now - we know if new players come to the club they are always welcome.

"But we are working hard and just concentrating on what we have here because we have a very, very good team. We are a young squad that is also intelligent. We are getting better in every game and you can see that from the outside. The key is working hard every day and we are together on this."

Chelsea are striving to build some momentum following last weekend's underwhelming 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City as they bid to get their Premier League campaign up and running at Molineux.

Yet Caicedo has also made it known that there are stark tactical differences between Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino's football - meaning patience is required.

He concluded: "The system is different because now with this manager, he always demands the players are in the right place to get the ball and to keep it. Maybe last year it was more free, you could move everywhere with personality. But it's better from now on to understand that because we are young, we can learn a lot."
