SAUK COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Nine juveniles from the Reedsburg area have been cited for disorderly conduct related to multiple reports of harassing behavior toward members of the Amish community.
The investigation is related to the Reedsburg Area High School football team, Sheriff Chip Meister confirmed. The district canceled the varsity team's first two games of the season, including the Aug. 30 game against DeForest due to the players' conduct.
Meister said on Aug. 11, deputies were conducting extra patrol in the rural Reedsburg area after multiple reports of "harassment behavior" toward members of the Amish community.
Meister said contact was made with a suspect vehicle involved. As a result of the investigation, nine juveniles from the Reedsburg area were cited for disorderly conduct.
27 News reached out to Reedsburg Area School District Superintendent Dr. Roger Rindo. He has not responded.
On Thursday, the school district sent out a new release in which it said the first two varsity football games of the year would be canceled due to an ongoing investigation.
Meister confirmed the investigation referenced in the school district release was the same one that led to the nine citations for disorderly conduct.
Disorderly conduct carries with it a $213.10 forfiture, according to the sheriff.
