GAME ESSENTIALS: Chiefs (4-2) at 49ers (3-3) at Levi’s Stadium, at 1:25 p.m. (PT). TV: Fox. Announcers: Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play), Greg Olsen (color commentary), Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi (sideline reporting).
ODDS: Chiefs -1.5. OVER/UNDER: 49.
SERIES: Tied 7-7 all-time. LAST MEETING: Chiefs won 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV.
The 49ers host the Chiefs on Sunday looking for a bounce-back performance after losing last week in Atlanta.
They’ll have a little extra help in the effort, as starters Trent Williams, Nick Bosa and Jimmie Ward are all expected to return to play after missing at least one game each.
The 49ers may also have a newcomer suiting up Sunday in the rematch of Super Bowl LIV after trading three 2023 draft picks and another in 2024 to Carolina for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that McCaffrey’s status was still up in the air after traveling to join his new team just two days before kickoff. McCaffrey said Friday that he wanted to learn “as much as humanly possible the next two days and get ready to play a football game.”
Questionable entering Sunday for the 49ers are safety Talanoa Hufanga (concussion) and Charvarius Ward (groin). Arik Armstead has been ruled out again with foot and ankle injuries.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs come in after losing a compelling home game to the early Super Bowl-favorite Buffalo Bills, 24-20. Cornerback Rashad Fenton is out with a hamstring injury, while guard Joe Thuney (ankle) and defensive end Michael Danna (calf) are questionable.
