Kelly Stafford was perhaps a bit too candid about the early days of her relationship with her husband, Rams QB Matthew Stafford, during an appearance on the “Off the Vine” podcast.
Kelly met the quarterback during their college days at Georgia, but the pairing didn’t exactly hit the ground running, she revealed to podcast Kristin Bristowe.
“It wasn’t that cute of a relationship at first,” Kelly said. “I hated him, I loved him. I dated the backup to piss him off, which worked — he was the bad boy too. Matthew’s so sweet and a Southern gentleman and all that stuff. And the backup was the complete opposite, and it upset him.”
The football WAG didn’t stop there, giving details of how she roped the star Bulldogs quarterback in.
“They lived in the same dorm room because athletes lived in the same dorm room. He would see my car there. At one point he waited and followed me into the car. I was like, ‘This is amazing, it’s working.’ I was like, ‘Get out of my car.’ He was like, ‘He’s not right for you.’ I was like, ‘What? You can’t tell me that.’”
The elaborate plot did indeed work out for Kelly, who has been married to Stafford since 2015.
The couple has four daughters: 7-year-old twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 5, and Tyler, 3.
Kelly’s recent story about their college days was far from the first time she jumped into the public eye with some shocking comments.
Last month, Kelly ripped Harrison Butker’s now-viral commencement speech at Benedictine College, in which he encouraged female college graduates to be “homemakers.”
“It is a woman’s choice whether she decides to be a career woman,” she said in a video posted online. “It is a woman’s choice if she decides to do both and balance and do all that.”
In October, Kelly ripped rapper Blueface for having bikini-clad women dancing in his suite at a game against the Steelers at SoFi Stadium, setting off a public feud between the two.
