This summer, the Olympics are taking place in Paris, France.

Here at ESPN Southwest Louisiana, we want to make sure you are kept in the know with all things happening regarding the USA as well as athletes with local ties.

Athletics

  • Team USA’s Tara Davis-Woodhall won gold in the women’s long jump final with a result of 7.1 +.8. Jasmine Moore also added to America’s medal count as she earned bronze in the event with 6.96 +.2. Monae Nichols was 6th with 6.67 -.1.
  • Team USA’s Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone got gold in the women’s 400M hurdles final as she finished in a world record 50.37 seconds. That time beating her Olympic record of 51.46 seconds back in 2021. Anna Cockrell was right behind and got silver as her time was 51.87 seconds. Jasmine Jones just missed out on a medal and placed fourth in 52.29 seconds.
  • Team USA’s Grant Holloway earned gold in the men’s 110M hurdle final, finishing in 12.99 seconds. Daniel Roberts got a silver medal after he completed the event in 13.09 seconds. Freddie Crittenden placed 6th in 13.32 seconds.
  • Team USA’s Kenneth Bednarek won silver in the men’s 200M final, finishing the event in 19.62 seconds. Noah Lyles earned bronze with a time of 19.7 seconds. That was done after he was diagnosed with COVID earlier in the day. Erriyon Knighton was 4th after completing the event in 19.99 seconds.
  • Team USA’s Taliyah Brooks placed 2nd in heat 3 of the women’s heptathlon 100M hurdles with 1124 points, her season best. Chari Hawkins and Anna Hall finished 5th and 6th in the same heat with 1100 and 1071 points.
  • Hall placed 3rd in group B’s women’s heptathlon high jump with 1093 points and a result of 1.89, her season best. Brooks was 8th in the same group with 941 points and her result was 1.77.
  • Team USA’s Jaida Ross and Raven Saunders qualified in their groups of the women’s shot put qualifiers. Ross placed 4th in group A with a result of 18.58 while Saunders was 4th in group B with 18.62. Chase Jackson was 9th in group A with 17.6.
  • Team USA won round 1 of the women’s 4x100M relay heat 1 with a result of 41.94 and a reaction time of .144. The four athletes in the event were LSU’s Sha’carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson, Gabrielle Thomas, and Twanisha Terry.
  • Team USA won round 1 of the men’s 4x100M relay heat 1 with a result of 37.47 and a reaction time of .122. The four athletes in the event were Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Courtney Lindsey, and Kyree King.
  • Team USA’s Brandon Miller won heat 4 of the men’s 800M repechage with a result of 1:44.21.
  • Team USA’s Elle St. Pierre finished 3rd in the women’s 1500M semifinal and qualified with a time of 3:59.74. Nikki Hiltz also placed 3rd in her semifinal and qualified as her time was 3:56.17.

Sport Climbing

  • Team USA’s Sam Watson won bronze in the men’s speed final with a 4.74 WR.
  • Team USA’s Brooke Raboutou finished 3rd and qualified in the women’s boulder & lead semifinal. Raboutou’s final score was 155.8 total points (83.7 Boulder points, 72.1 Lead points). Natalia Grossman placed 11th with 108.3 total points (69.2 Boulder points, 39.1 Lead points).

Wrestling

  • Team USA’s Helen Louise Maroulis won her women’s freestyle 57kg 1/8 final against Anshu Anshu 7-2. Maroulis then won 7-4 in the 1/4 final against Alina Hrushyna Akobiia. She then dropped her semifinal matchup against Tsugumi Sakurai 10-4.
  • Aaron Marquel Brooks defeated Azamat Dauletbekov 4-3 in the men’s freestyle 86kg 1/8 final. Brooks then beat Hayato Ishiguro 11-1 in the 1/4 final. Brooks lost however 4-3 to Magomed Eldarovitch Ramazanov in the semifinals.
  • Team USA’s Spencer Richard Lee won his men’s freestyle 57kg 1/8 final 3-2 against Wanhao Zhu and then moved on after winning the 1/4 final when he defeated Bekzhat Almaz Uulu 12-2. Later in the day, Lee won his semifinal matchup against Gulomjon Abdullaev 14-4.

Canoe Sprint

  • Team USA’s Nevin Harrison finished 1st in heat 2 of the women’s canoe single 200M with a time of 45.7 seconds.

Diving

  • Team USA’s Carson Tyler just missed out and was 4th in the men’s 3M Springboard final with 429.25 points

Volleyball

  • Team USA defeated Team Brazil in the women’s semifinals 3 sets to 2.

Water Polo

Team USA women lost their semifinal matchup against Australia 14-13.

Basketball

  • Team USA came back from behind by as much as 17 and defeated Team Serbia 95-91 to move on to the gold medal match against France on Saturday afternoon.
