Terry is off to UTEP of the Conference USA

Former Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry will be hired as the new UTEP head coach, per reports. ESPN Las Vegas’ Joe Arrigo had the story first.

Terry, who began his D-I head coaching career with Fresno State, spent seven years with the Bulldogs, going 126-108 with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016.

Four of Terry’s last five seasons with Fresno State resulted in 20+ wins. Terry concludes his Fresno State career with the third-most tenure victories in program history behind only Tiny Grant and Jerry Tarkanian.

The UTEP head coaching position is vacant after Tim Floyd resigned early this season after just six games. He announced his retirement in November, foregoing a position he had held since 2011.

Terry, who is from Angleton, Texas, has already been a D-I assistant at two Texas schools. He was an assistant at Baylor from 1996 to 1998, and with Texas from 2002 to 2011.

UTEP was 11-20 this season. The Miners haven’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2010.
