Warriors consultant Steve Nash to be inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame

Warriors player-development consultant Steve Nash has been notified that he will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2018, according to an ESPN report. Though the full list of inductees won't be announced until Saturday, it is no surprise that Nash, 11-time All Star Jason Kidd (a San Francisco native and Cal alum), and seven-time All Star Grant Hill will make the cut. In a 19-year career with the Suns, Mavericks and Lakers, Nash was an eight-time All-Star, three-time

Warriors player-development consultant Steve Nash has been notified that he will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018, according to an ESPN report.

Though the full list of inductees won’t be announced until Saturday, it is no surprise that Nash, 11-time All Star Jason Kidd (a San Francisco native and Cal alum), and seven-time All Star Grant Hill will make the cut.

In a 19-year career with the Suns, Mavericks and Lakers, Nash was an eight-time All-Star, three-time All-NBA first team selection and two-time MVP. He is third on the NBA’s all-time assist leaderboard behind Kidd and John Stockton.

In each of the nine seasons between 2001-02 and 2009-10, Nash was the catalyst behind the team that led the league in offensive efficiency. The 112.7 points per 100 possessions his 2009-10 Suns averaged were more than any team scored in 30 years until Golden State averaged 115.2 per 100 possessions two seasons ago.

In fall 2015, Golden State hired Nash for a part-time job with few requirements. He isn’t beholden to any set schedule as a player-development consultant. Three years after retiring from the NBA, the father of three divides his time among the Warriors, his work as a movie producer and being the general manager of the Canadian national team.

Nash flies from his Los Angeles home to Oakland for a few days most months. His conversations with close friend Kevin Durant reportedly were a big factor in Golden State signing the former Oklahoma City forward.

In past years, prospective Hall of Fame inductees needed to be retired for five full years to be eligible. Now, former players can hit the ballot after three years, which cleared the way for Nash to join the 2018 class.
