The USC women’s track and field team pulled off the unthinkable during Saturday’s 4×400 meter relay.
Needing to win the race to take home the NCAA championship (any other finish meant Georgia would win), USC found itself in a precarious spot. Heading into the final leg, USC bobbled the baton on a near collision.
Purdue took such a large lead that the ESPN commentators gave USC no chance, calling the race over with the race still going on. USC’s Kendall Ellis would have a say in the matter.
Ellis would incredibly catch Purdue’s Jahneya Mitchell to win the national title. As video of the comeback went viral, Kobe Bryant chimed in on Ellis’ effort. He was certainly impressed.
Olympic champion and USC product Allyson Felix felt the same way.
