Aggies vs Lobos Betting Trends

Monday night’s matchup marks the second and final scheduled meeting this season between these long-time rivals. The Lobos romped to a 101-94 win as heavy 10.5-point road underdogs when these teams clashed on November 30, extending New Mexico’s head-to-head win streak to three games, both straight up and against the spread.

The Lobos have produced mixed results in recent dates with the Aggies on home court, posting just one SU and ATS win in their past three. However, they have managed to go 1-1 SU and ATS in their past two head-to-head home contests while pegged as betting underdogs. Recent editions of this rivalry have tended to be high scoring, with total points topping 150 in four of five meetings, spawning a 4-1 run for the OVER.

New Mexico State Aggies Outlook

The Aggies travel to Albuquerque for Monday’s contest on the heels of Friday’s road victory 72-69 over the UTEP Miners. The victory as 1-point chalk is the second straight for New Mexico State on the road, and improves the squad’s overall SU record so far this season to 6-2. The Aggies have struggled to generate consistent results at the sportsbooks, alternating between ATS wins and losses in their seven games to date versus Division I opponents. However, they have managed to pay out in their past two road outings, both as betting chalk.

New Mexico State has powered its fast start to the season with clutch offense. Aggies shooters secured Friday’s win over the Miners by converting on 56.6% of field goal attempts, and hitting 40.0 from beyond the arc. The team has not hit 52.3% from the floor over their past three outings, fueling their climb to No. 71 in adjusted offensive efficiency at Kenpom.

While the team enjoyed the benefit of four starters reaching double digits in Friday’s win, it has been a pair of juniors who have powered the attack. Teddy Allen has averaged 22.3 points per game over his past three outings and currently leads the squad with 18.0 points per game. Jabari Rice is coming off a team-high 19-point performance in Friday’s win and has padded his team-leading assist total with 11 total helpers over his past two outings.

New Mexico Lobos Outlook

The Lobos have been idle since their victory over the Aggies back on November 30. By far the team’s strongest performance of the season so far, last week’s victory also marked the Lobos’ most prolific offensive performance since their 107-88 rout of Houston Baptist on home court in December 2019. And with the victory as a lengthy underdog, New Mexico also put the brakes on a three-game winless slide ATS in dates with Division I opponents.

New Mexico will now be aiming to duplicate that effort in Monday’s rematch with the Aggies. Forced to play last season’s home games outside the State of New Mexico due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Lobos have reveled in their return to The Pit, posting three straight outright wins while going 2-0-1 ATS. That run includes a 99-92 victory over Florida Atlantic as 1-point underdogs.

The duo of Jamal Mashburn Jr. and Jaelen House have led the charge. Mashburn leads the team in scoring after averaging 23.7 points per game over his past three outings. House is looking to build on a career-best 31-point performance in last week’s win over the Aggies, and has now reached 30 points on two occasions so far this season. However, the Lobos may once again have to make do without junior guard KJ Jenkins, who has now missed three games with an ankle injury, and remains listed as questionable on Monday night.

The Pick: Lobos +3.5 (-110)
