ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Cavaliers begin their final road trip of the regular season as they take on the Orlando Magic tonight. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. EDT.
The Cavs (43-36) have lost six of their last eight, and have been without All-Star center Jarrett Allen and Rookie of the Year candidate Evan Mobley. Both are listed as out again on Tuesday as Allen continues to rehab from a fractured finger and Mobley works to come back from a sprained ankle that he suffered in last week’s 107-101 Cavs’ win over Orlando.
But Tuesday night won’t be only about what the Cavs do on the court as Cleveland continues to jockey for positioning in the tight Eastern Conference race.
Cleveland is currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors by 2 1/2 games, so would need help from one or both team to move up out of the play-in tournament. The Bulls host the Bucks tonight while the Raptors host the Hawks. Cleveland will have just two games left after tonight.
The play-in tournament is for seeds 7-10. Charlotte (40-38) and Brooklyn (40-38) have clinched Eastern Conference play-in berths, and the eighth-place Atlanta Hawks (41-37) are 1 1/2 games behind the Cavaliers. All four teams will play at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in their respective regular-season finales as the play-in slate shakes out.
Orlando (20-59) has dropped six in a row and is in last place in the East. The Cavs have gotten two wins over the Magic this season and are going for the series sweep tonight.
