South Plains head coach Steve Green is joining Mark Adams’ staff at Texas Tech, as Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported on Sunday night.
Red Raider hoops has a new assistant coach.
He's very familiar with Mark Adams, who said, "He's been probably the most instrumental coach in my career as far as educating me and introducing me and connecting me to coaches on the Division I level.https://t.co/VMT3aFPmVa— Carlos Silva Jr. (@cmsilvajr) May 23, 2022
It’s a move that will have seismic moves at the junior college level, as Green has coached at South Plains for 23 years. He amassed an impressive 552-152 record as a head coach of the Texans, adding to the over 700 wins he’s accumulated as a head coach. Levelland became one of the top JUCO destinations in the country during Green’s tenure.
Already a NJCAA Hall of Famer and three-time NJCAA National Champion, Green’s on-paper resume speaks for itself. But if turn on the film of the teams Green has coached, you’ll see something perhaps even more impressive. Green is an offensive mastermind, generating offensive schemes that are explosive and up-tempo. Green’s systems place an emphasis on three-point shooting -- an area Texas Tech needs to see dramatic improvement after finishing dead last in the Big 12 in three-point attempts, makes and percentage last season.
Green should help maximize the potential of transfers D’Maurian Williams and De’Vion Harmon, who are both efficient three-point shooters. Green will presumably serve as the team’s “offensive coordinator”, helping defensive guru Mark Adams add a threat on the other end.
