It will be a busy weekend for Twin Harbors high school basketball fans as six local teams take to the court to being state tournament play on Friday and Saturday.
Here’s a quick rundown of the upcoming action.
Boys
1A: No. 15 Elma vs. No. 10 Seattle Academy
Elma (13-10 overall) will look to continue it’s run through the postseason when it opens state-tournament play against No. 10 Seattle Academy Saturday morning at Bellevue College.
The Cardinals (11-9) finished third in the 1A Emerald Sound-Chinook League and defeated Northwest 57-44 to claim third place in the district tournament to earn a spot in state.
Seattle Academy features just two seniors – one being outside sharpshooter Carson DeBruhl — and have six players listed at 6-foot-3 or taller, including 6-foot-9 post Talbott Chesley.
The Cardinals can shoot from long range, as evidenced by their 41% 3-point shooting percentage in a 48-45 win over King’s (Seattle) on Jan. 20.
The winner will face the loser of No. 7 Blaine versus No. 2 Zillah in the Round of 12 on March 1 in Yakima.
The loser is eliminated from postseason play.
1B: No. 5 Moses Lake Christian-Covenant Christian vs. No. 4 Willapa Valley
In a matchup of two ranked schools, No. 4 Willapa Valley square off with No. 5 Moses Lake Christian-Covenant Christian at noon Saturday at Tumwater High School.
The Vikings (18-5), fourth-ranked in the final AP state poll, will face a No. 7-ranked Lions team that went 18-3 on the season and edged Riverside Christian 59-58 to win the District 6 title.
The Lions have won 11 of their last 13 games, its only loss in that time span to Riverside Christian 56-55 on Jan. 31.
Willapa Valley is coming off a victory over Oakville to win its second-straight District 4 championship and features a balanced offense, with four players scoring eight points or more per game, led by seniors Riley Pearson (15.1 points) and Wil Clements (12.3).
The winner will skip a round and move into the state quarterfinals set for March 2 at the Spokane Arena.
The loser will face the winner of No. 13 Riverside Christian versus No. 12 Sound Christian in the Round of 12 on March 1 in Spokane.

Girls
1A: No. 5 King’s vs. No. 4 Montesano
Montesano (21-3) will look to make a return trip to the state’s Final Four when the Bulldogs face No. 5 King’s (Seattle) at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Tumwater High School.
The fourth-ranked Bulldogs look to be in postseason form after demolishing a good Seton Catholic team 72-46 in winning its third-straight District 4 title on Friday.
The Knights (21-3), ranked fifth in the final AP poll, rolled through its competition en route to an Emerald Conference Tournament title and are on a 12-game winning streak.
King’s defeated Seattle Academy 54-38 in the district championship and are averaging 53.7 points per game.
Montesano is led by senior forward and 1A Evergreen League MVP McKynnlie Dalan (21.2 ppg) and arguably the state’s best defense that has held opponents to 30 points or less 13 times this season.
The winner will earn a second-round bye and slot into the quarterfinals on March 2 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The loser will face the winner of No. 13 Seton Catholic versus No. 12 Seattle Academy in the Round of 12 on March 1 in Yakima.
1A: No. 16 Hoquiam vs. No. 9 Freeman
Hoquiam (15-8) enters the state tournament as a No. 16 seed and will face No. 9 Freeman in a first-round elimination game at 6 p.m. Friday at West Valley High School in Spokane.
The eighth-ranked Scotties (18-5) are coming off a 53-44 loss to No. 6 Deer Park in the District 7 title game and are led by a trio of double-digit scorers in 6-foot-3 senior Jaycee Goldsmith (13.1 ppg), senior guard Stephanie Chadduck (11.6 ppg) and freshman Taylee Phelps (10.6 ppg).
The Grizzlies are led by senior post Chloe Kennedy (15.7 ppg) and senior guard Graci Bonney-Spradlin (10.7 ppg).
The winner will face the loser of No. 8 Bellevue Christian versus No. 1 Nooksack Valley in the second round on March 1 in Yakima.
The loser is eliminated from postseason play.
2B: No. 13 Davenport vs. No. 12 Raymond
Raymond (19-6) survived a brutal 2B District 4 Tournament to earn the fifth and final state-tournament spot and will face No. 13 Davenport in a first-round elimination game at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.F. West High School.
Raymond is led by Pacific League MVP Karsyn Freeman (23 ppg) and has shown the ability to find offense elsewhere when teams focus on the Gulls’ sophomore standout, as was the case when junior Kyndal Koski scored a game-high 25 points to help beat Toutle Lake 49-33 to get into the state tournament.
Davenport (16-10) punched its ticket to state with a 45-43 win over Lake Roosevelt in a District 6/7 crossover game after finishing fourth in the 2B Bi-County League.
The Lady Gorillas feature just two seniors and one junior on the roster, which is also comprised of six freshman and one eighth grader.
The winner advances to the Round of 12 on March 1 in Spokane and will face the loser of No. 5 Adna versus No. 4 Warden.
The loser will see its season come to a close.
1B: No. 13 Orcas Island vs. No. 12 Willapa Valley
Willapa Valley (17-7) enters the 1B State Tournament as a No. 12 seed and will face No. 13 Orcas Island (12-11) in a first-round elimination game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tumwater High School.
Valley will have to shake off a blowout district-final loss to second-seeded Mossyrock and find some offense it if hopes to advance to Spokane.
Willapa Valley is led by seniors Grace Huber (16.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and Brooklyn Patrick (7.7 ppg, 6-5 ppg, 4.7 apg, 4.6 spg).
Orcas Island placed third in the Northwest 2B/1B league and lost to Mount Vernon Christian 55-33 in the District 1 title game.
Orcas Island is led by junior Bethany Carter (13.1 ppg), sophomore Ava Ashcraft (9.2 ppg) and freshman Sofia Mahony (8.9 ppg).
The winner will face the loser of No. 5 Inchelium versus No. 4 Mount Vernon Christian in the Round of 12 on March 1 at the Spokane Arena.
The loser is eliminated from competition.
