The Villanova Wildcats will head down to Washington to face the Georgetown Bulldogs in Big East play this Friday from the Capital One Arena on the CBS Sports Network. Villanova leads the classic series, 45-41, and they come in as 9.5-point road favorites, with the total hovering 139.5. Stay tuned for our Villanova vs Georgetown Prediction.

Villanova Wildcats Preview

Villanova enters at 13-11 after defeating Seton Hall in Philly, 80-54. The Wildcats used an impressive two-way effort to blow out the Pirates, and they’ll look to avoid trading a fifth straight game this Friday in D.C. Villanova is scoring 72.5 points per game, on 42.4% shooting, while allowing 63.5 ppg, and they’re currently 8th in the Big East with a 6-7 record in conference play. The Wildcats are 3-7 over their previous ten games, and they’ve gone 2-6 on the road this season.

Villanova Team Profile

  • Kyle Neptune’s group plays through their defense and takes things slow on the offensive end, averaging 69.0 possessions per game (287th), and they’re shooting just 33.3% from the outside (213th).
  • Veteran forward Ed Dixon scored a game-high 18 points in the massive win over Seton Hall, and he leads Villanova in scoring (15.8), while grabbing 6.3 rpg.
  • Wazzu transfer TJ Bamba went for a season-high 24 points in the Marquette defeat, and he’s second on the team at 10.5 ppg.
  • Former Richmond forward Tyler Burton leads the Wildcats in rebounding (6.&), while scoring 8.3 ppg.
  • Longtime Nova guard Justin Moore (9.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg) hasn’t scored much since returning to the lineup, but he’s helped improve the energy on the defensive side.

Georgetown Hoyas Preview

Georgetown fell to 8-16 after losing to Creighton in Omaha, 94-72. The Hoyas were blitzed early by the Blue Jays, and they’ll look to dodge a tenth straight loss here against the Wildcats. Georgetown is scoring 71.6 points per game, on 41.6% shooting, while allowing 71.1 ppg, and they’re currently 11th in the Big East with a 1-12 record in league play. The Hoyas are 1-9 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 7-8 in D.C. this season.

Georgetown Team Profile

  • Ed Cooley’s group plays at a normal pace, averaging 71.7 possessions per game (177th), and they haven't show well from deep this season, knocking down 33.9% of their threes (183rd).
  • Norfolk native Jayden Epps has struggled thru four February contests, but he still leads Georgetown in scoring (17.6) and assists (4.3).
  • Junior swingman Dontrez Styles has hit the 20-point mark in two of his last three outings, and he's second on the team at 13.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
  • Fairfield transfer Supreme Cook posted an 18-point double-double in the Creighton matchup, and he leads the Hoyas in rebounding (8.2), while scoring 11.7 ppg.

Villanova vs Georgetown Trends

  • VIL is 13-11 against the spread, with a 11-13 O/U record.
  • GT is 10-14 ATS, with a 14-10 over/under record.

Villanova vs Georgetown Prediction

This rivalry has seen much better days, as both Villanova and Georgetown are going to miss the field of 68, with the latter likely missing postseason play altogether. The Wildcats managed to pick up an impressive win over an improved Seton Hall team last time out, and they have to bring that same energy into one of their easiest games remaining against a struggling Hoyas squad. Georgetown showed life during the non-conference slate, but the depth and blows from the Big East have taken their toll, and ultimately clouded Ed Cooley’s first season in the Capitol. I’m sure of Villanova avoiding a slip up here, so let’s back them this Friday, and give the Under a look in case they come out with another strong defensive showing.
