Alabama men’s basketball guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr.’s recovery from a head injury continues, with head coach Nate Oats saying he isn’t guaranteed to play in Saturday’s matchup with Tennessee. Wrightsell has missed the Tide’s past three games.

However, Oats said signs are positive.

“Obviously with the head injuries you can’t rush it,” Oats said. “He’s going to workouts. It’s really day-to-day based on meetings with Clarke (Holter), our trainer, Dr. (Craig) Buettner, our neurologist. They say he’s doing really well, doing much better.”

Wrightsell’s offensive scoring talent, especially his touch from three-point range has been missed. UA beat Florida and Ole Miss but lost to Kentucky during his time away.

Oats reiterated that Wrightsell has been working with the team in recent days.

“They’ve got a whole process, I don’t know exactly how it all goes, the team doctors handle that,” he said. “But he’s back doing basketball workouts and conditioning and all that. They say it’s going really well so it should be any day here that he’s able to play games.”

Alabama faces Tennessee Saturday at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum, in a game that has massive ramifications for the SEC regular-season title. The Crimson Tide and Volunteers are tied for the league lead, despite UT’s victory earlier in the season when they faced off in Knoxville.

The game will draw the basketball version of ESPN’s College Gameday program to Tuscaloosa for the first time ever.
