HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local girl’s basketball team continued its journey to a state title earlier Tuesday evening, but not without some support from their community.
28/22 News Reporter Emily Allegrucci was at the school where buses were ready to bring fans to the game.
Unfortunately, the Hazleton Area Lady Cougars didn’t come out on top Tuesday evening, but that does not mean there wasn’t a crowd to cheer them on every step of the way.
The high school even provided a bus to bring students to the game.
A bus full of cheerleaders and another with students headed to Bethlehem earlier Tuesday to cheer on the Hazleton Area Lady Cougars on their journey to a state title.
The bus was provided free of charge to all students in grades nine through twelve so they could cheer on their team without worrying about transportation.
Many students and families opted to drive, but regardless of how they got there, the Lady Cougars had a crowd who was more than happy to be there to support them.
“I don’t know, just like cheering them on and getting so hyped up, and like, helping them win a little bit. Get their points,” said Hazleton Area High School Freshman Nyllah Romero.
“Students supporting one another. And that’s what it’s all about. That’s what we try to teach, we try to instill in our young people here, and we’re very proud of the fact that they wanted to go down and support the lady cougars,” Hazleton area high school Principal Tony Conston said.
As mentioned, the Lady Cougars didn’t get the win they hoped for, but ended the season in a way to be proud of.
