The knockout round is underway at the 2024 Paris Olympics men's basketball tournament. The quarterfinals kicked off Tuesday, and just six teams remain in the single-elimination bracket. That includes USA Basketball, which will face Brazil in the final game of the day on Tuesday. Germany and Serbia were the first two teams to advance to the semifinals. The Germans ousted Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece, while Serbia overcame a 24-point deficit to take down Australia.
Canada and France are squaring off in the most-anticipated quarterfinal matchup as the hosts and Victor Wembanyama try to make the medal rounds against a Canadian side searching for its first Olympic medal in men's basketball since 1936.
The United States men's basketball team, with another star-studded veteran roster, is chasing a fifth straight gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. By winning their first three games in Group C with the highest point differential (plus-64), the Americans secured the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The Americans have posted lopsided wins over Puerto Rico, South Sudan and Serbia to open the tournament as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Bam Adebayo and others have starred for Team USA. But bigger challenges await.
Twelve teams participated in the tournament. They were divided into three groups, and the top two teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals, along with two wild-card teams. Now, it's a single-elimination tournament. One bad shooting night, one questionable decision, or one bad whistle can send you home.
