I think Spanish football and the Spanish Football Federation deserve another president other than Ángel María Villar, said the LaLiga president.

Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, said after the General Assembly of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that he hopes there is a candidate to go up against and beat Ángel María Villar in next year’s RFEF presidential elections.

Tebas openly declared his position regarding the possible re-election of Villar, who could regain his position for the seventh time since becoming president in 1988. “I hope there is a candidate who can face him and beat him in an election,” said Tebas. “That’s what I hope. I think Spanish football and the Spanish Football Federation deserve another president other than Ángel María Villar. He is free to stand, he is free to say what he wants and I hope there are elections with an alternative to win”.

Tebas also spoke against the words of Villar at the General Assembly regarding the Royal Decree for the collective sale of media rights. Villar’s opinions were of no surprise to the LaLiga president. “It was to be expected,” he said. “The president Ángel María Villar has been against the Royal Decree from the first minute and he has a strange vision. Neither the facts are as stated nor are the final results as he intended.”

“It’s a matter of different opinions. A country shows that there is democracy when there are diverse opinions,” Tebas added. “But there are people that think differently to the president of the Federation and I’ve said that many times.”
