Louis van Gaal does not want Víctor Valdés at Manchester United. The Dutchman has not taken the goalkeeper on United’s tour to the United States and the reason is that the Catalan refused to play with the reserve team last season.
The Dutch coach believes the former Barcelona goalkeeper, 33, has a “bad attitude” and revealed that he refused to play for United’s reserve team last season. “He doesn’t follow my philosophy,” said Van Gaal. “Last year, he refused to play in the second team and there are other aspects you need as a keeper at United. When you are not willing to follow those principles, there is only one way and that is out.”
When asked if he wanted to sell Valdés, the United coach replied: "Yes. It is a big disappointment. It is a pity because we have given him the opportunity to rehabilitate, gave him a contract and then he is fit to play."
Valdés made his debut under Van Gaal in 2002 when the Dutchman was in charge of Barça. He signed an 18-month contract with United in January. The player is now looking for a new club, however, despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of United’s No.1 David de Gea.
