Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal looks resigned to the fact that David De Gea will be a Real Madrid player next season. During the Red Devils’ pre-season tour in Seattle the Dutch coach sent out messages that would imply a move for the former Atlético Madrid keeper is a mere formality.
After announcing the departure of Víctor Valdés because of his refusal to play with the reserves on a number of occasions last season, Van Gaal admitted that Argentina’s number one Sergio Romero is an option. Asked by the Manchester Evening Post about the possible arrival of Romero, he said: “I cannot say that because it is a process and I can’t say anything about the process and the strategy of Manchester United. I have said that already. Maybe you are right (that another goalkeeper could come in) but I can’t tell that in this moment. Or maybe not. It is dependant on David De Gea. Shall he stay? He is training here and doing his utmost best."
Judging by the comments made it would appear that the United coach is resigned to the fact that the Spanish keeper’s days at the club are numbered.
