The short 200 metre journey from his ballot box to that of Joan Laporta took Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff over 45 minutes this morning.
Amid the photos, hugs and even arguments that tend to accompany the Dutchman at club events, Cruyff explained his support for Laporta: “I’m voting for him because he is my friend and because the situation that the club finds itself in, under investigation, is unacceptable. I don’t understand, for example, why the club has taken down Iñaki Urdangarín’s [a former handball star at the club and the disgraced husband of the Infanta Cristina] shirt from the Palau because of the accusations against him while the museum still bears the name of Josep Lluís Núñez, who’s in jail. This can’t go on.”
Barcelona’s former manager also voiced his support for Iker Casillas: “He’s always been a gentleman both on and off the pitch. He’s a good example for everybody, including for rivals. He’s a club legend and Real Madrid haven’t treated him well at all.”
