He’s content. I feel he’ll stay and he’s the best defender in the world. We don’t want to lose him and I’m confident he’ll end up staying”

Objectives: “We want to improve in every game and want to show the new coach what we are capable of. Results are not so important in pre-season. We just want to get better. If we win, great but it’s important we play as the coach wants us to. We’re working well, twice a day and it’s hard. This is what pre-season is all about, the training sessions are good fun and with plenty of ball work”.

Injury: “Last season was difficult. I suffered two serious injuries and it’s best forgotten. I’m working well and pain-free. I want to be able to help the coach and team as much as I can”.

Rafa Benítez: “We’re all looking forward to the season ahead and are working well. Sometimes players are not so keen on tactical work but this discipline helps you in difficult times during games. There are no issues with that”.

Manchester City: “I’ve played many times against City. Things have changed a great deal under the new owners. They have invested heavily in the club and they’ve become successful in England. I didn’t see their game the other day against AS Roma”.

Surprised with Benítez: “Not at all. It’s the first time we’ve gotten to know each other and the feelings are good. I’ve been told that he is very demanding and that is a positive thing for a player. I hope things work out well and we have a successful season ahead”.

Sergio Ramos: “I hope that Sergio stays as he’s so important for us, our captain and our leader on and off the pitch. He seems happy and I feel that he will stay. I’m sure he wants to stay too”.
